Herança: Reverie

  • This composition originated as a daydream during a walk, inspired by the concept of genetic memory—the notion that memories can be inherited across generations. I wondered how this might apply to my musical heritage. Ethereal sections bridge two distinct folk styles: the lively, chromatic melodies of Brazilian Chôro and Maxixe, characterized by a sixteenth-eighth-sixteenth bass pattern, and the vibrant rhythms of the Venezuelan Joropo, characterized by fluid and constant shifts between 3/4 and 6/8. Bridge sections evoke the nostalgic sound of a music box, which eventually gently guides the piece to a close with a fading Chôro rhythm, symbolizing the conclusion of my reverie.
